Film Definitions

SunShield™ Solar Control Film is applied to the interior of glass window. Its function is to reduce the solar heat gain, ultra violet light and glare that normally would penetrate through glass. In addition, the film also provides increases shatter resistance.

SunShield™ Solar Control Film can be manufactured in different colours and light transmission to cater to individual needs and unique requirements.

Definitions

  • Shading Coefficient

  • The shading coefficient is the ratio of solar heat gain through a given glazing system to that of a standard glass pane under the same test condition. Lower the shading coefficient number, better the sun control capability.

  • Total Solar Energy Reflected

  • The ratio of the amount of total solar energy directly reflected by the glazing system to the amount of total solar energy falling on that glazing system.

  • Total Solar Energy Absorbed

  • The ratio of the amount of total solar energy directly absorbed by the glazing system to the amount of total solar energy falling on that glazing system.

  • Total Solar Energy Transmitted

  • The ratio of the amount of total solar energy passing directly through a glazing system to the amount of total solar energy falling on that glazing system.

  • Total Solar Energy

  • The sum of energy transmitted, reflected and absorbed by the glazing system is known as total solar energy.

  • Solar Energy Spectrum

  • Solar energy is typically divided into three categories, namely – Ultraviolet, Visible and Infra-red which result in heat when solar radiations are absorbed by the glazing system.

  • Visible Light Transmitted

  • The ratio of visible solar energy that passes through a glazing system to the total visible energy falling on the system.

  • Ultraviolet Light Transmitted

  • The ratio of the solar energy that is transmitted by a glazing system to the total solar Ultraviolet energy falling on the glazing system

  • ‘U’ Factor

  • ‘U’ Factor is a measure of the rate of heat conductivity of a glazing system, and it is independent of solar radiation.
